A Cop Slapped Homeless Woman in the Park—Unaware She Was the National Security Advisor's Daughter!
Chapter 2
Even the park's unhoused residents held a strange respect for her. Curtis, a man who had lived on those benches for a decade, once told Leonard that Zariah reminded him of someone important. He laughed it off as a foolish memory, and the thought passed, unexamined and forgotten.
The truth sat quietly inside Zariah's notebook, inside the silver necklace she never removed, and inside the calm she carried like armor.
As the frost began to melt off the fountain's edge, a police cruiser turned slowly onto the access road running along the park's northern boundary. Its engine hummed low against the cold, carrying with it a man who was about to make the worst mistake of his career.
Officer Travis Boon had patrolled that district for eleven years. In that time, his worldview had calcified into a rigid certainty: anyone living without a permanent address was one bad moment away from causing real trouble. He had built his entire career on stopping people for the crime of existing somewhere visible, his superiors looking the other way because his numbers looked good on paper.
That morning, dispatch had relayed a vague complaint about a woman near the fountain harassing customers at a kiosk. The caller had hung up, and the details were thin, but Travis took the call eagerly. Beside him sat Officer Melissa Crane, 38 years old and quieter by nature. Having ridden with Travis for a year, she had learned to read the tension in his jaw. She did not share his certainty, but she had not yet found the courage to speak up.
They stepped out of the cruiser. Travis led the way, his exaggerated stride announcing his authority before he ever spoke a word.
