Martin slowly lowered his hands, breaking the stance, and stepped back. He was just an old janitor again, breathing a little heavier than usual.

From the back of the room, Eddie Thompson started a slow clap. He walked forward, shaking his head with a wide, reverent smile.

"I knew it," Eddie said, his voice echoing in the dead-silent gym. He looked at the crowd of confused, stunned kids. "You idiots don't study your history. You've been letting an absolute legend mop your sweat for three years. Martin 'The Ghost' Irving. Middleweight contender, 1984. Never knocked down. Never knocked out."

Frank Wilson looked like he was going to be sick. The fighters lowered their phones. The realization washed over the room like ice water.

Tyler stood trembling, his pride entirely dismantled in thirty seconds by a man nearly three times his age. The bravado was gone, stripped away by the horrifying realization of the gap between a loudmouth prospect and a seasoned master.

Martin calmly bent down, righted his cleaning cart, and picked up his mop. He looked at Tyler.

"I believe," Martin said softly, the faint trace of a smile touching his lips, "we had an agreement."

Tyler swallowed hard. The cameras were still rolling, but the narrative had permanently shifted. The golden boy looked around at his peers, at his girlfriend, at the veteran trainer, and finally at the man who had just spared him.

Slowly, stiffly, and in front of thirty silent witnesses, Tyler Brooks bent at the waist.

He bowed.

"Now," Martin said, turning back to his bucket. "Pick up those bottles you knocked over. My shift ends at six."
