The HOA had been dissolved completely by a unanimous vote of the residents.

Daniel stood in his backyard, flipping a row of burgers on the grill. The old shed had been repaired, heavily reinforced, and painted a bright, cheerful white in honor of Arthur Henderson.

Marcus was setting up a cornhole board, Owen was adjusting the Bluetooth speaker, and Javier was carrying a massive cooler of beer through the side gate.

But it wasn't just the four of them this time.

Mrs. Gable was sitting at the patio table, laughing as she mixed a pitcher of margaritas. The neighbor from across the street was tossing a football with his son. Over forty people were spread out across Daniel's yard, spilling over into the front lawn.

The sound of music, laughter, and sizzling meat filled the Saturday afternoon air.

Daniel looked around the yard, a deep sense of peace washing over him. He took a sip of his beer, feeling the warm sun on his face. He had fought a war for a patch of grass he barely knew, but in the end, he hadn't just saved his house. He had found a home.

The gate opened, and a few more neighbors walked in, carrying plates of food. No one checked their watches. No one measured the property lines.

And no one called the police.
