Morrison had served Silver Ridge County for over two decades. He possessed the quiet, deliberate patience of a lawman who understood that loud people were rarely the ones telling the truth.

"Mrs. Petton, explain what happened," Morrison directed.

"I was utilizing the HOA access lane when he emerged from the barn and stated he would 'deal with me personally.' I felt genuinely concerned for my safety."

"At what time?"

"Roughly twenty minutes ago."

"And where was your vehicle located at the time?"

"In the community buffer area."

Morrison turned his eyes toward me. "Marcus?"

Without speaking, I unlocked my phone and opened a video folder connected to my farm security setup. The first clip displayed Karen driving directly past two prominent private-property notices. The second showed her stepping out of her SUV and walking away while I calmly asked her to move the vehicle. The third showed her returning later, presenting a middle finger to the trail camera, and driving aggressively through the standing corn.

I pointed out the verifiable time stamps on the screen, then brought up the recording from twenty minutes prior.

The video showed Karen entering the field alone. I was visible near the barn structure, over a hundred yards away, engaged in repairs. I had never approached her vehicle or spoken a word to her.

Morrison watched the video twice through. Karen’s face visibly tightened.

"That footage has been doctored!" she asserted.

"It’s continuous, time-stamped trail-camera footage, Mrs. Petton," Morrison noted dryly.

"He edits these things!"

The sheriff tapped the screen dark and turned to her. "Mrs. Petton, official county land records confirm this property belongs entirely to Mr. Chen. There is no recorded public or HOA easement on this deed."

"That is incorrect."

"I verified it with the county clerk's office before driving out here."

"The board possesses full documentation."

"Then have your board present that documentation through an attorney," Morrison replied.

She gestured toward my boundary posts. "Those signs he posted are illegal!"

"On what authority?"

"They interfere with established community usage."

Morrison sighed softly. "Mrs. Petton, historical usage does not give you permission to drive through another man's planted crops."

Karen folded her arms tightly. "You ought to arrest him."

"On what charge?"

"Harassment!"

"He was standing beside his own barn on his own land." Morrison pulled out a small notepad. "I am filing an official report documenting this trespass history. From this moment on, you are on formal notice that you are not permitted on this property."

"You cannot issue an order like that!"

"The property owner just did, and I am witnessing it," Morrison stated firmly. "If you return without explicit permission, it ceases to be a civil dispute and becomes knowingly unlawful trespass."

Karen slammed her SUV door shut. Before leaving, she slammed on the accelerator hard enough to throw a shower of gravel and mud across my boots.
