little bag and go home before I have to call your

parents to come pick up a crying child."

Isla did not flinch, nor did she break eye

contact with the imposing man. Instead, she slowly

and deliberately reached into her heavy, weathered

bag. She pulled out a formal, elegantly wrapped

parchment scroll, bound with a thick red silk

ribbon and sealed with hardened black wax. She

presented it to Vance with both hands, extending

her arms in a gesture of absolute, ancient respect

that had not been seen in this dojo for decades.

Vance frowned, his arrogant amusement

briefly faltering as he snatched the scroll from her

small hands. He broke the wax seal and unrolled

the parchment. It was a formal, undeniable

challenge token—an ancient, highly traditional

declaration of martial intent that the Ironwood

Dojo technically still honored in its foundational

bylaws, though no one had actually utilized one in

desperately wants. Light contact only. Sweep her

gently, put her on her back, and don't break

anything we can't easily fix."

Kael grinned widely, a predatory, highly

arrogant expression spreading across his face. He

loudly and obnoxiously cracked his thick knuckles,

thoroughly relishing the opportunity to show off

his superior speed and intimidate the strange child.

The other black belt students immediately formed

a wide, eager circle around the center tatami, their

faces lit up with the toxic, popcorn-eating

mentality of a crowd eagerly awaiting a

humiliating comedy show.

Isla gently placed her heavy bag at the very

edge of the mat. She stepped calmly and silently

into the exact center of the ring. She stood

incredibly still, a stark, profound contrast to the

bouncing, aggressive energy radiating from her

towering opponent. The room fell into a hushed,

highly anticipated silence as the ill-fated match was
