Flight Attendant Slapped Elderly Man — Didn't Realize His Son Controlled Company
Chapter 5
Derek rushed into the galley, his face pale. "Jessica, we have a massive problem."
The sudden chime of the intercom cut through the tense murmurs of the cabin.
"Ladies and gentlemen," Captain Reynolds's voice filled the aircraft, heavy and grave. "I have been made aware of a severe incident that occurred during boarding. A full, transparent investigation will be conducted immediately upon our landing in Chicago. Additionally, I have been informed that we have a highly distinguished guest aboard today. Mr. Marcus Hayes, the CEO of Hayes Global Holdings, has requested to address the cabin."
The plane went deathly silent. In the galley, Jessica dropped her coffee cup. It spilled over her shoes, but she didn't move.
Marcus Hayes stood up from seat 1A. He unhooked the intercom phone from the forward bulkhead. He didn't look at Jessica or Derek. He looked at the passengers.
"Good afternoon. My name is Marcus Hayes." His voice was calm, but it carried the terrifying weight of absolute authority. "The man your crew just assaulted, humiliated, and removed from this aircraft is my father, Robert Hayes."
Collective gasps rippled through the cabin. A woman in row three covered her mouth. Jessica backed up until she hit the galley wall, her eyes wide with unadulterated terror.
"My father is a seventy-two-year-old veteran," Marcus continued, his words echoing through the metal tube. "He served in Vietnam. He worked for the United States Postal Service for forty years. He has never been arrested. He's never had a complaint filed against him. He's never missed a bill payment in his entire life."
Marcus paused, letting the silence ring out.
"Six months ago, I told my father I wanted to buy him a business class ticket to see my niece graduate. He refused. He said he would buy his own ticket. He told me he had saved his whole life to provide for our family, and he wanted to earn this one luxury for himself. And today, I sat here and watched a member of this airline's crew verbally abuse him. I watched her physically assault him. I watched her accuse him of theft, of lying, and of not belonging. I watched her destroy his ticket, kick his belongings, mock my dead mother, and then strike him in the face hard enough to draw blood."
He finally turned his gaze toward the galley, locking eyes with Derek and Jessica. The route manager looked like he was going to be sick.
"Some of you are wondering why I didn't intervene right away," Marcus said, his voice dropping to a deadly, quiet register. "Why did I let it happen? Because I needed to see it. All of it. I needed to watch the system expose itself. I needed to see exactly how far the rot went, and who would cover it up."
Marcus hung the intercom phone back on its hook.
"And now," he said, loud enough for the entire business class to hear, "you are all witnesses."
