“Morning, Devin.”
“I'm guessing this isn't your favorite Saturday.”
“No.”
Devin interviewed Maddy.
Her story changed.
She couldn't identify the weapon.
She couldn't explain when it happened.
She couldn't produce Braden.
And the cameras showed Hank alone the entire morning.
Then another camera provided something even better.
At approximately 9:11, Braden was heard shouting inside his house.
“The old man laughed at me again!”
Maddy's voice followed.
“You said you'd handle it.”
Then she called 911.
Hank closed his eyes.
The final piece had fallen into place.
The Last Forty-Eight Hours
The HOA meeting was scheduled for Sunday, October 6.
Maddy believed she would be discussing stricter rules about nonconforming vehicles.
She didn't know the meeting would become the final chapter of her presidency.
Hank's evidence file contained twelve major sections.
Braden's vandalism.
The five damaged vehicles.
The HOA financial records.
The personal bank account.
The fraudulent fines.
The false 911 call.
The threatening messages.
The witness statements.
The postal investigation.
And finally:
Two arrest warrants.
One for Braden.
One for Maddy.
Hank's daughter, Mara, drove up from Austin on Saturday.
She listened quietly while her father explained everything.
When he finished, she looked toward the Mustang.
