She saw me.
Then Marcus.
Her smile disappeared.
"What's happening?"
I looked at her.
"This is my property."
She laughed nervously.
"You're making a scene."
"No."
I nodded toward Marcus.
"He's here because you organized an unauthorized event on my property."
Linda's face hardened.
"I'm the HOA president."
Marcus stepped forward.
"And I'm the sheriff."
The crowd went silent.
Linda looked around.
Forty people were watching.
Some still held drinks.
Others had phones in their hands.
One woman whispered:
"You said he agreed."
Linda's eyes flashed toward her.
"He did."
I reached into the folder.
"No."
I held up my deed.
"I didn't."
Then I held up the HOA bylaws.
"There is no Section 4.2."
Linda's face went pale.
I held up the meeting minutes.
"You proposed shared pool access six times."
I turned the pages.
"You lost every vote."
Someone in the crowd said:
"Linda?"
She ignored them.
"This is an HOA matter."
"No," I said.
"You made it personal."
I pressed play on my phone.
Linda's own voice came through the Bluetooth speaker.
"I can fine you weekly until you lose this house. I've done it before."
The backyard became completely silent.
Then her own voice continued.
"We can find common ground or we can find foreclosure."
The recording stopped.
Linda stared at me.
"You recorded me."
"Yes."
She looked at Marcus.
"You can't arrest me over an HOA disagreement."
Marcus held up the citation.
"This isn't an HOA disagreement."
He explained that she was being cited in connection with unauthorized entry and organizing access to private property through a written false representation.
Linda's voice shook.
"I thought the board had authority."
I held up the email.
"You told ninety-six households that I agreed."
She said nothing.
A man near the pool looked at the turquoise pass in his hand.
"But you told us it was official."
Another woman stepped forward.
"You said the homeowner approved this."
Linda's face tightened.
"I believed he would."
That sentence destroyed what little remained of her defense.
Marcus looked at me.
"Anything else?"
I nodded.
"The cameras."
I opened the cloud footage.
Linda entering my property.
Linda opening the gate.
Linda distributing passes.
Linda placing the fake notice on my door.
Linda welcoming guests.
Linda giving the speech.
Every moment was timestamped.
One of the deputies quietly said:
"This is going to be a long night."
Linda looked at me.
For the first time since I had met her, she looked afraid.
Not angry.
Not powerful.
Afraid.
"You planned this."
