"It's not his."
Evan held out a sealed folder.
Inside were:
The deed.
The original subdivision map.
The court filing.
The access records.
The deputy studied everything.
Then he looked toward the pool.
"This pool is inside Parcel 7A."
Linda immediately produced the HOA map.
"Our documents identify it as common property."
Deputy Landry examined the paper.
"This has no surveyor's seal."
"The board approved it."
"A board cannot approve taking someone's land."
Linda's face darkened.
"My husband serves on the county planning commission."
The deputy looked at her.
"That doesn't change the deed."
Evan passed out the electronic access logs.
"These show every temporary code her company created."
Deputy Landry read through them.
Then he looked at Linda.
"Mrs. Caldwell, step away from the gate."
"You don't understand who I am."
"I understand that you're standing outside private property demanding entry."
Linda looked around.
Nobody was behind her anymore.
The renters had begun gathering around the deputy.
One man held up his phone.
"She charged me $400."
Another said:
"We paid for a VIP pass."
Mallory's camera kept recording.
Then another vehicle arrived.
A state business-regulation inspector stepped out.
Harlan Estes carried a document folder.
"Mrs. Caldwell?"
Linda turned.
"I need your commercial-access records."
Her face went pale.
The Gate
Linda backed away from the gate.
"This is harassment."
Evan looked at her.
"No."
His voice was calm.
"This is accounting."
Inspector Estes handed her a cease-and-desist order addressed to Caldwell Coastal Hospitality.
The renters began demanding refunds.
The deputy asked Linda a direct question.
"Did you accept payment for access to Parcel 7A?"
Linda refused to answer.
Then she tried to walk away.
"Step away from the gate," Deputy Landry ordered.
"This is my community!"
"It is not your pool."
Linda grabbed the gate again.
Deputy Landry seized her wrist.
"I told you to step away."
"This is ridiculous!"
She resisted.
The deputy placed handcuffs around her wrists.
