“The board authorized corrective action.”
“Show me.”
“I don't have to show you anything on demand.”
Robert picked up his coffee.
“Then what exactly was he authorized to do?”
“Remove an HOA violation.”
“By entering my property?”
“Yes.”
“Taking my keys?”
“Yes.”
“Loading my property onto a truck?”
Cheryl's jaw tightened.
“You've ignored every warning we've given you.”
“Because none of those warnings cited an actual rule.”
“You don't decide which rules matter.”
“Neither do you.”
Cheryl stepped closer.
“I am the HOA president.”
Robert nodded.
“Yes.”
She pointed at him.
“And you have repeatedly challenged my authority.”
“No.”
Robert looked at the Harley.
“I've challenged your assumption that authority exists simply because you say it does.”
Cheryl's face reddened.
“You're going to regret this.”
Robert looked toward the camera.
“I don't think I will.”
She immediately pulled out her phone.
“I'm calling the police.”
Robert nodded.
“Please do.”
That answer clearly surprised her.
The Police Arrive
Officer Michael Torres arrived eleven minutes later.
A second cruiser followed.
By then, several neighbors were standing outside watching.
Cheryl immediately approached Torres.
“This man assaulted my son while we were attempting to enforce an HOA violation.”
Torres looked toward Evan.
“Assaulted?”
Evan nodded.
“He grabbed me.”
Torres turned toward Robert.
“Did you grab him?”
“No.”
“Threaten him?”
“I told him to take his hands off my motorcycle and leave my property.”
Torres glanced toward the Harley.
Then toward the pickup.
