That sentence seemed unfamiliar to her.

Stone picked up his phone.

Emma suddenly grabbed his wrist.

“No!”

Stone stopped.

“What?”

“Don't call them.”

“Who?”

“The police.”

Stone looked at the others.

“Why?”

Emma's eyes filled with tears.

“They'll take me back.”

“Back where?”

She didn't answer.

Stone lowered the phone.

“Okay.”

He sat down beside her.

“You don't have to tell me everything right now.”

Emma looked at him.

“You promise?”

“I promise.”

The room became quiet.

Then Emma whispered:

“My mom told me to hide.”

Stone's expression hardened.

“Why?”

“She said bad men were looking for us.”

“Where is your mother?”

Emma looked at the floor.

“I don't know.”

Stone glanced toward the riders.

He didn't need to say anything.

Everyone understood.

Something much bigger was happening.

Emma suddenly reached into her pocket.
