"That's him! That's the guy!"
Everyone turned. The young white boy from the park was running down the sidewalk, tears still streaking his dirty cheeks. He was pointing frantically—not at the police officer, and not at Melissa. He was pointing directly at Kendrick.
Officer Collins smirked at Melissa. "See? Here's a victim now."
But as the boy reached the group, he stopped, looking in horror at the handcuffs on Kendrick's wrists. He looked up at the officer, his lip trembling.
"Why is he in trouble?" the boy cried out. "He's the one who saved my bike! A scary man in black clothes took it, and he chased him away and got it back for me!"
