I-15 that afternoon. They asked around local feed stores to see if anyone recognized
the distinct, stenciled markings that were on the burlap sack.
For a week, the bikers scoured the community, determined to bring the abuser
to light.
The breakthrough came from an unexpected source. A local mechanic and
associate of the club, 'Grease', called Jim late one night. He had been reviewing
security footage from a gas station positioned a few miles before the spot where the
bag was found.
“Jim, you gotta see this,” Grease said over the phone. “I got a beat-up blue Chevy
pickup pulling into the station. The bed of the truck is full of junk, but there’s a
burlap bag matching your description bouncing around in the back. The driver
stops for gas, kicks the tire, and gets back in.”
“Did you get a plate?” Jim asked, his voice icy.
“Clear as day,” Grease confirmed.
With the license plate in hand, the bikers passed the information directly to the
highway patrol officers who had helped them the week before. The police quickly
traced the plate to a man with a long history of animal cruelty and neglect charges.
