The response preserved the work order.
The work order exposed the vendor.
The vendor exposed the payments.
The payments exposed Karen's relationship with Harper.
The camera exposed Harper's visit.
And Andrea's folder connected the rest.
Every action created another piece of evidence.
Every attempt to hide something left another trail.
That was the part Karen never understood.
She thought authority meant control.
It didn't.
Authority without accountability was simply abuse wearing an official title.
The Camera Stayed
When the federal contract ended, technicians came to remove the dedicated equipment.
They opened the same utility box Karen had ordered disconnected months earlier.
This time, they had authorization.
They removed the equipment.
Closed the panel.
Asked me to sign the paperwork.
I did.
Everything was simple.
Ordinary.

That word meant more to me afterward than it ever had before.
