Before Davis could finish, a heavy hand clamped down on his shoulder. Lieutenant Briggs, a senior officer with a notoriously heavy hand, squeezed Davis's collarbone tightly. "Shut your mouth, rookie," Briggs hissed in his ear. "Go take a walk."
Up in the glass office, Chief Whitlock smirked, clearly pleased with his sergeant's handling of the situation.
Talia didn't yell. She didn't flinch. She simply looked down at the torn pieces of the federal warrant, and then looked back up at Calder. A terrifyingly calm smile touched the corners of her lips.
"Sergeant Calder," Talia said, her voice echoing in the dead silence of the bullpen. "Destroying a sealed federal document and obstructing a US Marshal are Class D felonies. You just gave me the authority to arrest you on the spot."
Calder sneered, stepping out from behind the desk, resting his hand on his service weapon. "You're in my house, 'Marshal'. Why don't you turn around and walk out before I arrest you for impersonating a federal officer?"
Talia didn't back down. Instead, she reached up and tapped the microphone wired to her collar. "Breach."
