Among the passengers was a woman named Evelyn Carter.

She was in her early sixties.

People moved toward the gate.

Evelyn stepped into line.

The gate agent, a young man named Brandon Lewis, barely looked at her.

"This isn't valid."

"That's strange."

"It should be."

"Well, it isn't."

Evelyn remained calm.

"I confirmed it yesterday."

"No."

She opened her email.

"Here."

Brandon glanced at the screen.

"I don't need the email."

"But it shows the confirmation number."

"I already checked."

Evelyn looked at the growing line behind her.

"Could you scan it again?"

Brandon shook his head.

"Please."

He sighed.

"I understand."

She paused.

"It does."
