Why Ukraine talks are being delayed, according to Zelensky

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said that upcoming rounds of negotiations with Russia and the United States on the Ukraine conflict have been postponed due to escalating tensions surrounding Iran, while the parties continue to maintain constant communication to seek a diplomatic solution.

On March 9, President Volodymyr Zelensky announced on his Telegram channel that this week’s meeting, proposed by the United States, had to be delayed because partners are currently prioritizing the situation around Iran. He emphasized that Ukraine’s negotiation team remains in 24/7 contact with the U.S. side to closely monitor developments.

Earlier, some sources said that a trilateral round of talks between Ukraine, Russia, and the United States was expected to take place in Istanbul on March 11. However, the administration of President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan has not confirmed this information.

According to an assessment by Rustem Umerov, Secretary of Ukraine’s National Security and Defense Council, the previous round of talks held in Geneva on February 17–18 achieved some progress.
