Over the next month, my mailbox became the frontline.

First came a formal warning for "Excessive Decibel Levels." Karen claimed the cold-start of the V10 engine was a disruption of the peace. The second notice cited "Improper Driveway Usage," alleging that washing the car on a Saturday afternoon created unsightly runoff.

I didn't get angry; I got tactical. I requested the official HOA bylaws, a seventy-page document of dense legalese. I read it cover to cover, highlighting sections, cross-referencing clauses, and finding every loophole.

I learned that the noise ordinance only applied between the hours of 10:00 PM and 7:00 AM. I learned that "visual nuisances" specifically referred to rusted vehicles, commercial trucks over two tons, and cars sitting on cinder blocks. The Lamborghini violated absolutely nothing.

When she slipped a $250 fine under my door for "Aesthetic Non-Compliance," I knew it was time to mount a counter-offensive. I called Bob Carter, the Vietnam vet on the board. We had a long chat over a couple of beers in my garage, admiring the midnight-blue paint job.

"She's out of control," Bob grunted, taking a sip. "Tom is tired of it. Sarah is terrified of her. She’s trying to rewrite the bylaws without a community vote to ban 'exotic luxury vehicles' just to get to you."

"Can she do that?" I asked.

Bob smirked. "Only if the board votes yes. And the monthly meeting is tomorrow."

The community center was packed. Word had gotten around that Karen was making a move against the Lambo, and the neighbors—tired of being cited for having the wrong shade of white on their window trims—were restless.

Karen sat at the front table, her clipboard acting as a shield. Tom looked exhausted, rubbing his temples.

"Moving on to new business," Karen announced, her voice echoing in the quiet room. "I propose an immediate addendum to Section 4, Paragraph B of the vehicle code, strictly prohibiting high-decibel, exotic sports cars from remaining visible on residential properties."

She looked directly at me.
