"At least forty."

"How much?"

"Over sixty million dollars."

Eleanor looked stunned.

"Sixty million?"

Rachel nodded.

Arthur stood.

"Where's Daniel?"

Rachel's expression changed.

"He left."

"When?"

"About ten minutes ago."

Arthur looked toward the doors.

"Who was with him?"

Rachel shook her head.

"I don't know."

Arthur immediately moved toward the exit.

Eleanor followed.

They reached the lobby.

Victor was standing near the entrance.

Arthur approached him.

"Did you see Daniel Price leave?"

Victor hesitated.

"Yes."

"Who went with him?"

Victor looked uncomfortable.

"A black SUV."

"License plate?"

"I didn't get it."

Arthur's face tightened.

Victor suddenly reached into his pocket.

"I did see something."

"What?"

Victor pulled out his phone.

"I have a security camera."

He showed Arthur a still image.

Daniel was standing outside.

A black SUV waited nearby.

Two men were beside him.

Arthur stared.

One of them looked familiar.

"Who is that?"

Victor zoomed in.

Arthur's expression changed.

He knew the man.

His name was Marcus Vale.

A former private security contractor.

A man Arthur had fired seven years earlier.

And there was only one reason Marcus Vale would be involved.

Someone was trying to make sure Daniel Price never talked.

Arthur called the police.

But he didn't wait for them.

He knew Daniel might not have much time.

Eleanor grabbed his arm.

"Where are you going?"

"To find him."

"You're seventy-two."

"I've been reminded."

"This isn't a joke."

"I know."

Victor stepped forward.

"I can help."

Arthur looked at him.

"You have a family?"

Victor nodded.

"A wife and two daughters."

"Then don't."

Victor looked surprised.

Arthur continued.

"This isn't your fight."

Victor glanced at the entrance.

"Sir, with respect, I think it became my fight when I realized I had almost helped them disappear you."

Arthur studied him.

Then nodded.

"Fine."

Eleanor sighed.

"Wonderful. Now we're forming a rescue team."

Arthur smiled.

"You're not coming."

She crossed her arms.

"Try stopping me."

He looked at her.

"You know I can't."

"Exactly."

They left through the private entrance.

Victor drove.

Arthur sat in the passenger seat.

Eleanor sat behind them.

The rain continued.

Rachel remained at the hotel, gathering digital files.

Their first stop was Daniel's apartment.

The door was open.

Inside, drawers had been emptied.

Papers covered the floor.

Arthur walked slowly through the apartment.

"They searched for something."

Eleanor pointed.

"Look."

On the desk was a photograph.

Daniel with his wife.

Arthur picked it up.

There was writing on the back.

YOU SHOULD HAVE STAYED QUIET.

Victor looked at Arthur.

"This is bad."

Arthur nodded.

"Very."

Suddenly, Victor heard a noise outside.

He moved toward the window.

A vehicle sped away.

"Someone was watching."

Arthur looked around.

Then he noticed a loose floorboard.

He knelt.

Inside was a small metal box.

He opened it.

There was a notebook.

A handwritten ledger.

Arthur flipped through the pages.

Dates.

Names.

Amounts.

Bank accounts.

Shell corporations.

And at the bottom of every page was the same set of initials.

M.C.

Martin Caldwell.

Eleanor stared.

"So it was him."

Arthur shook his head.

"Not alone."

"Who else?"

Arthur turned several pages.

Then stopped.

One name appeared repeatedly.

Thomas Rainer.

Eleanor recognized it.

"The developer?"

Arthur nodded.

Thomas Rainer was one of the richest real-estate developers in the state.

He had been trying to purchase North Bellmont for years.

Arthur had always refused.

Now he understood why.

The foundation itself had been helping him.

Arthur closed the ledger.

"We need to find Daniel before they move him."

Victor looked at his phone.

"I can trace the SUV."

"How?"

"I know someone in vehicle investigations."

Within twenty minutes, they had a location.

An abandoned warehouse on the eastern edge of the city.

They drove there.

The building was dark.

Victor parked two blocks away.

Arthur looked at him.

"Stay here."

Victor shook his head.

"No."

Arthur sighed.

They approached the warehouse.

The door was unlocked.

Inside, it was almost completely dark.

Then they heard a voice.

"Arthur."

He froze.

Daniel.

They found him tied to a chair.

His face was bruised.

Eleanor rushed toward him.

"Daniel!"

Arthur untied him.

"Can you walk?"

Daniel nodded.

"Yes."

Victor looked around.

"Where are the others?"

Daniel whispered:

"They left."

"How long ago?"

"Five minutes."

Arthur helped him stand.

Daniel grabbed his arm.

"They know about the ledger."

Arthur looked at him.

"How?"

"They have someone inside the foundation."

"Who?"

Daniel shook his head.

"I don't know."

Arthur's expression hardened.

"Who knows about the notebook?"

Daniel stared at him.

"Everyone."

Suddenly, the warehouse lights came on.

Three men appeared near the entrance.

Marcus Vale stood in front.

He smiled.

"Good evening, Mr. Bennett."

Victor stepped forward.

Arthur raised his hand.

"Don't."

Marcus laughed.

"You still give orders."

Arthur stared at him.

"You still follow bad people."

Marcus's smile disappeared.

"This isn't personal."

"It always becomes personal."

Marcus looked at the ledger in Arthur's hand.

"Give it to me."

"No."

"You don't understand."

"I understand perfectly."

Marcus stepped forward.

"Mr. Bennett, your foundation is changing."

Arthur laughed.

"No."
