His voice became cold.

"You're changing it."

Marcus looked at Eleanor.

Then Daniel.

"People get hurt when they resist change."

Eleanor stepped forward.

"You threatened an innocent man."

Marcus smiled.

"He's not innocent."

"Neither are you."

Marcus's expression darkened.

Before anything else happened, sirens could be heard outside.

Marcus looked toward the door.

Then he ran.

Two men followed.

Victor chased them.

Arthur stayed with Daniel.

Moments later, police entered.

Marcus escaped through a rear exit.

But the ledger was safe.

For the moment.

Back at the hotel, Arthur called an emergency board meeting.

Every board member arrived.

Martin entered last.

He looked calm.

Too calm.

Arthur placed the ledger on the table.

"Who wants to explain this?"

No one spoke.

Martin looked at the notebook.

Then smiled.

"Forgery."

Arthur stared at him.

"Sixty million dollars?"

"Fabricated."

"Shell companies?"

"Coincidence."

"North Bellmont?"

"Development strategy."

Arthur leaned back.

"You're lying."

Martin's face hardened.

"You disappeared for three years."

Arthur's eyes narrowed.

"And you stole from the people I promised to protect."

Martin stood.

"You abandoned the foundation."

"I trusted you."

"And that was your mistake."

Silence.

Eleanor looked at Martin.

"No."

She spoke softly.

"Your mistake was thinking trust meant weakness."

Martin stared at her.

Then he smiled.

"You don't know what's coming."

Arthur stood.

"What is coming?"

Martin walked toward the door.

"Tomorrow morning, every newspaper in the city will report that Arthur Bennett is mentally unfit to lead the foundation."

Arthur's face went still.

Martin continued.

"And by noon, the board will vote to remove you."

Then he left.

For the first time that night, Arthur looked worried.

Not for himself.

For the foundation.

Because Martin wasn't bluffing.

The next morning, every major newspaper carried the same story.

FOUNDATION FOUNDER FACES QUESTIONS ABOUT LEADERSHIP

Another headline read:

A third was even worse.

Eleanor placed the newspaper on the kitchen table.

Arthur stared at it.

"How?"

She poured coffee.

"They had everything prepared."

Arthur nodded.

"Yes."

"They planned this before last night."

"Obviously."

"Then why did they let you walk into the gala?"

Arthur looked at her.

"Because they expected me to be humiliated."

"And instead?"

"They were."

Eleanor smiled.

"Good."

Arthur didn't smile.

"We need evidence."

"We have the ledger."

"Not enough."

"What about Rachel?"

"She's working on the digital records."

"What about Daniel?"

"He's safe."

"And Victor?"

"Watching the hotel."

Eleanor sat across from him.

"Arthur."

He looked up.

"You know what I think?"

"What?"

"I think they made one mistake."

"Which one?"

"They underestimated you."

Arthur smiled.

"No."

He reached across the table and took her hand.

"They underestimated us."

By noon, the emergency board meeting began.

Arthur entered the room.

There were eleven board members.

Six were already against him.

Three were undecided.

Two were loyal.

Martin sat at the opposite end of the table.

He had brought two lawyers.

The chairman of the board spoke.

"Mr. Bennett, today's meeting concerns your continued leadership."

Arthur nodded.

"I understand."

Martin stood.

"Over the past three years, Mr. Bennett has become increasingly absent from the foundation's operations."

Arthur listened.

"He has failed to attend meetings."

"True."

"He has made decisions without consulting the board."

"Name one."

Martin paused.

Arthur continued.

"You accused me of making unilateral decisions. Name one."

Martin looked at the lawyers.

One lawyer whispered.

Martin continued.

"There are concerns about his judgment."

Arthur smiled.

"Because I rejected your development proposal?"

Martin's face tightened.

"Because of multiple issues."

Arthur looked around the room.

"Then let's discuss them."

The chairman spoke.

"We'll proceed with the vote."

Arthur nodded.

Before the vote, the doors opened.

Rachel walked in.

She was carrying a laptop.

Everyone turned.

Martin stood.

"You can't interrupt this meeting."

Rachel ignored him.

She approached Arthur.

"I found it."

Arthur looked at her.

"Found what?"

"The original financial records."

The room became silent.

Rachel connected the laptop to the screen.

A series of transactions appeared.

Arthur stared.

Martin's face went white.

Rachel explained.

"The foundation's official records were altered."

One board member asked:

"By whom?"

Rachel looked at Martin.

"By someone with administrator access."

Martin stood.

"This is absurd."

Rachel continued.

"I also found deleted emails."

She opened one.

A message appeared.

Transfer the North Bellmont properties before Bennett returns.

Another.

If he comes back, activate the media strategy.

Another.

The board vote must happen before he can review the accounts.

The room erupted.

Martin shouted:

"Those emails are fabricated!"

Rachel opened the metadata.

"They came from your account."

Martin looked at his lawyers.

Arthur stood.

"There's more."

He held up the ledger.

"This was found last night."

A board member looked at it.

"What's in it?"

"Every fraudulent transfer."

Martin's face became pale.

Then suddenly, one of the undecided board members stood.

"I want a forensic audit."

Another followed.

"So do I."

Martin's control began to collapse.

But he wasn't finished.

He pulled out a folder.

"If we're exposing secrets, then let's expose all of them."

He threw photographs onto the table.

Arthur looked.

They were pictures of him meeting politicians.

Business leaders.

Foreign investors.

Martin smiled.

"You built your empire through influence."

Arthur said nothing.

"You think you're clean?"

Arthur looked at him.

"No."

Martin smiled.

Arthur continued.
