“Yes.”

Jason's face lost color.

“You own this car?”

“Yes.”

“How?”

Lily tilted her head.

“How did you think I spent the last decade?”

“You said product strategy.”

“I do product strategy.”

“You never said you owned Novara.”

“You never really asked.”

Jason opened his mouth.

Closed it.

Chloe stared at him.

“You told me she had no ambition.”

Lily's eyes shifted toward Jason.

He looked away.

Martin said:

“Ms. Chen, the compliance team is waiting.”

Chloe frowned.

“What compliance issue?”

Jason immediately interrupted.

“Nothing.”

Lily looked at Chloe.

“Did you authorize Jason to reference assets from your family trust in a financing inquiry?”

Chloe stared.

“What?”

Jason's voice rose.

“Lily, stop.”

Chloe turned.

“Jason?”

“It was preliminary.”

“What was preliminary?”

“The financing.”

“You said cash.”

“I was exploring options.”

“With my trust?”

“Not exactly.”

Lily spoke.

“The application referenced Whitmore Family Trust assets.”

Chloe's expression changed completely.

“You used my portfolio?”

“I didn't execute anything.”

“You submitted something?”

“A preliminary request.”

“Without asking me?”

“I was going to.”

“When?”

Jason couldn't answer.

Chloe stepped back.

“You told me you were a millionaire.”

“I am doing well.”

“That's not what I asked.”

Jason looked around.

The showroom was watching.

Every instinct told him to perform.

To control.

To bluff.

But the structure was collapsing too quickly.

Lily added:

“The employment information on the application does not list Jason as a Senior Vice President.”

Chloe stared.

“What?”

Jason said:

“Titles at Vanguard are complicated.”

“No.”

Chloe's voice became cold.

“You told me Senior Vice President.”

“I said senior level.”

“You introduced yourself to my father as an SVP.”

Jason swallowed.

Chloe looked at Lily.

“What is he?”

Lily refused to reveal confidential details unnecessarily.

“Not what he represented to you.”

Chloe turned back.

“Are you even a millionaire?”

Jason said nothing.

“Oh my God.”

She laughed.

Not because it was funny.

Because the alternative was screaming.

Jason reached for her.

“Chloe, baby.”

She slapped his hand away.

“Don't touch me.”

“I can explain.”

“You used my financial information.”

“I was going to ask.”

“After submitting it?”

“It wasn't final!”

“You lied about your title.”

“Everyone exaggerates.”

“No.”

Chloe's eyes filled with disgust.

“You exaggerate.”

She removed the key to her apartment.

Placed it on a desk.

“Your things will be packed tomorrow.”

“Chloe.”

“We are done.”

Then she looked at Lily.

“I was awful to you.”

Lily nodded.

“Yes.”

Chloe almost smiled.

“I deserved that.”

“You don't owe me anything.”

“I owe you an apology.”

“Then apology accepted.”

Chloe looked at Jason one final time.

“You know the saddest part?”

He couldn't speak.

“You could have told me the truth.”

She walked out.

The glass doors closed.

Jason stood alone.

His image had vanished in less than five minutes.

The wealthy executive.

The millionaire.

The man purchasing a hypercar.

All gone.

He looked at Lily.

Tears appeared.

“Lily.”

She waited.

“I screwed up.”

“Yes.”

“I was scared.”

“I know.”

“You always know everything.”

“No.”

She shook her head.

“I just knew you.”

Jason's face crumpled.

“I still love you.”

“No.”

“You can't say that.”

“You don't love me the way you think you do.”

“I do.”

“Then why did respect disappear when you believed you were more successful?”

Jason had no answer.

Lily continued:

“You loved the version of yourself reflected in me when I believed in you.”

His eyes filled.

“But when Chloe reflected wealth, status, access—you chose that reflection.”

“I'm sorry.”

“I believe you.”

Hope appeared.

Lily extinguished it gently.

“Being sorry doesn't mean we belong together.”

Jason lowered his head.

“Can we start over?”

“No.”

“I'll change.”

“I hope you do.”

“For you.”

“That isn't enough.”

He looked up.

Lily's voice softened.

“You need to change even if I never speak to you again.”

Jason sat on a bench.

He covered his face.

Lily turned toward Derek.

“You put your hands on me.”

Derek was sweating.

“I misunderstood.”

“You also encouraged a financing process for a vehicle not authorized for sale.”

“I was trying to make a deal.”

“And you dismissed another visitor based on what he appeared able to afford.”

Derek glanced toward the father and teenage boy.

Martin said:

“This matches prior complaints.”

Lily nodded.

“Preserve the footage and records. Follow disciplinary procedure.”

Derek looked shocked.

Jason looked up.

No dramatic firing.

No public revenge.

Lily wasn't interested.

Fair process mattered more.

That somehow made Jason feel worse.

She did not need cruelty to prove power.

The father and teenage boy still stood nearby.

Lily approached.

“I'm sorry you were treated that way.”

The father shrugged.

“We were just looking.”

His son stared at the X-One.

Lily smiled.

“You like it?”

The boy nodded quickly.

“More than anything.”

“What's your name?”

“Ethan.”

“How old?”

“Sixteen.”

“What do you want to do?”

“Design cars.”

“Engineer or designer?”

“Both.”

“Good.”

She looked at Martin.

“Can Ethan see the cockpit?”

Martin smiled.

“Absolutely.”

Ethan's eyes widened.

“Really?”

“Yes.”

Lily opened the passenger door.

“Just don't touch anything red.”

Ethan laughed.

Jason watched from across the room.

That was when understanding finally arrived.

Lily had never lacked status.

She simply didn't need to perform it.

Jason had spent years buying symbols.

Lily had spent years building things.

He wanted people to think he belonged near extraordinary machines.

She had helped create one.

Lily entered the X-One.

The cockpit wrapped around her.

Martin stood beside the door.

“Taking it home?”

“Yes.”

“You sure?”

“No.”

He laughed.

Jason approached.

One final time.

“Lily.”
