Marcus handed over a folder.
The officer opened it.
He read.
Then read again.
“You've been keeping records.”
“Yes.”
The officer looked at his partner.
“This may be more complicated than vandalism.”
Marcus said nothing.
The officer asked:
“Do you want to press charges?”
Marcus looked at the footage.
“Yes.”
The officer nodded.
“Then preserve everything.”
Marcus replied:
“I already have.”
The Meeting
Victoria called an emergency HOA meeting that evening.
She claimed Marcus had endangered the neighborhood by refusing to cooperate with association security protocols.
Marcus attended.
So did Dana.
Nearly fifty homeowners filled the clubhouse.
Victoria stood at the front.
“I want to address recent misinformation.”
Marcus sat quietly.
Victoria continued.
“Certain individuals have attempted to create unnecessary conflict within our community.”
Marcus knew exactly who she meant.
Victoria looked toward him.
“Mr. Reed has repeatedly refused reasonable requests.”
Marcus raised his hand.
Victoria ignored him.
“He has installed unauthorized security equipment.”
Marcus looked at Dana.
She whispered:
“Let her talk.”
Victoria continued.
“He has also engaged in hostile communications.”
Someone in the audience asked:
“What does that have to do with the pool?”
Victoria froze.
“What pool?”
The homeowner looked at her.
“The broken glass.”
Murmurs spread.
Victoria recovered.
“I have no knowledge of that matter.”
Marcus said nothing.
Another homeowner stood.
“Did you enter Marcus's property this morning?”
Victoria's face changed.
“No.”
The room went silent.
Marcus looked at her.
Then at the board.
He placed a small tablet on the table.
“I have video.”
The room erupted.
Victoria demanded:
“This is outrageous.”
Marcus remained seated.
