A woman who operated a food truck remembered seeing the van near an industrial lot.

“Tuesday evening,” she said.

“Did you see where it went?”

“East.”

Toward the old warehouse district.

Jerome received the message.

He looked at Shade.

“Let's go.”

The old warehouse district was nearly abandoned.

Broken windows.

Rusting fences.

Empty loading docks.

Places where nobody asked questions.

Jerome and Shade moved carefully through the area.

Then Shade stopped.

“Camera.”

A security camera still had a small red power light.

Jerome called someone he knew.

“Can you get the footage?”

“Give me an hour.”

They waited.

An hour later, the footage arrived.

There it was.

A white van.

Broken left headlight.

Crescent-shaped dent.

Jerome stared at the screen.

“That's it.”

Shade leaned closer.

The license plate was blurry.
