leave. To return to her quiet apartment, make a cup of tea, and

never see this arrogant child again. But she looked around the

room. She saw Toby, bleeding and scared. She saw the other

students, their faces reflecting a mixture of fear and quiet

desperation under Julian's tyrannical reign. She remembered the

military hospitals, the soldiers broken by senseless violence, the

arrogance of warlords who thought power meant causing pain.

She sighed. It was a deep, weary sigh of someone who had

tried to retire from conflict, only to find that conflict has a way of

finding you.

Elara turned slowly, walking back toward the center of the

mat. She reached into her pocket and pulled out a hair tie. With

deliberate, measured movements, she gathered her hair and tied it

into an impossibly tight, secure knot at the base of her skull. She

removed her simple stud earrings and handed them to a stunned

student standing nearby.

"Very well," Elara said, stepping onto the center fighting

square. She did not assume a fighting stance. She simply stood with

her feet shoulder-width apart, her arms hanging loosely by her

sides. She looked entirely relaxed, yet an undeniable aura of

intense, lethal focus radiated from her.

"But," she continued, her voice echoing in the silent room, "we

will not use your rules. We will not use padded gloves or shin

guards. We will not stop for points."

This time, Elara stepped inside the arc of his punch. She raised

her left arm, not to block, but to guide his arm upward,

hyperextending his elbow just slightly past its natural limit. At the

same moment, she stepped her lead foot behind his supporting left

leg.

It was a standard sweep, but executed with anatomical

perfection. She didn't use force to throw him; she simply removed

the structural support holding him upright while altering his

center of gravity. Julian hit the mat hard, the breath exploding

from his lungs in a sharp 'oof'.

Before he could react, Elara was kneeling beside him. Her right

hand darted out, her thumb pressing deeply into the hollow behind

his collarbone, sinking into the brachial plexus—the complex

network of nerves that controlled the arm and chest.

Julian let out a strangled, breathless scream. Pain, blinding and

utterly overwhelming, shot through his entire upper body. It felt as

though his chest was being crushed in a vice while his arm was

dipped in boiling oil.

"You are relying on gross motor skills and adrenaline," Elara

spoke softly, her face hovering inches from his. Her voice was

devoid of malice, sounding more like a professor delivering a

lecture on a cadaver. "But adrenaline cannot bypass the central

nervous system. When the hardware fails, the software crashes."

She released the pressure just before he passed out. Julian

gasped frantically for air, his chest heaving, his entire body

trembling uncontrollably. Tears of involuntary pain streamed

down his face. He tried to push her away, but his arms felt like lead

weights.

"Get... off... me," he rasped, his arrogance completely shattered,
