“Any other unauthorized entries?”
“At least seven.”
“Any financial dispute?”
I looked at Vivian.
“She wants control of this property.”
Vivian laughed.
“I want compliance.”
I opened the files on my phone.
HOA notices.
Rejected fines.
Meeting minutes.
Architectural plans.
And the wellness-club proposal.
Detective Hill read the first page.
Then looked toward Vivian.
“How did she plan to acquire the property?”
I answered.
“She claimed an old drainage easement gave the association partial control.”
Detective Hill looked at me.
“Does it?”
“No.”
“Then why the club proposal?”
I looked at Vivian.
She didn't answer.
But Detective Hill already understood that gasoline wasn't the beginning of the story.
It was the middle.
The Money Behind the Club
The proposed wellness club suddenly looked different when Detective Hill started following the money.
The company Vivian had selected to operate it was Caldwell Luxury Clubs.
It belonged to her brother.
The construction company was controlled by her brother-in-law.
