Karen didn't.
But she was about to.
The Police Arrive
Two police cruisers entered Hawthorne Court.
Officer Nina Patel stepped out of the first vehicle.
Her eyes moved from Karen to the hammer.
Then to the shattered Lamborghini.
Then back to Karen.
Karen immediately raised both hands.
"Thank God you're here," she said. "This man has been threatening me."
Marcus turned his phone toward the officers.
"The entire incident is recorded."
Karen pointed at him.
"He edited the footage."
Elaine's voice came from the phone.
"It's still live."
Officer Patel looked at the garage.
A camera was mounted above the door.
Another faced the driveway from the porch.
Marcus also explained that the Lamborghini's security system had automatically transmitted footage to encrypted servers the moment the first impact occurred.
Patel looked at Karen.
"Who struck the vehicle?"
Karen pointed at Marcus.
"He may have damaged it before I arrived."
Marcus said nothing.
Patel looked at the hammer.
Then at Karen's sleeves.
Tiny pieces of glass were still clinging to the fabric.
"May we view the recording?"
"Of course."
Marcus handed over the original footage.
It showed everything.
Karen entering the property.
Karen demanding the vehicle keys.
Karen claiming that someone "like him" couldn't legitimately own a car like that.
The first strike.
Marcus telling her to stop.
And then something Marcus himself hadn't clearly heard.
Karen had spoken into her phone before swinging again.
"Start the towing claim now. Once the windshield is damaged, we can classify it as abandoned and unsafe."
Officer Patel paused the recording.
"Who were you speaking to?"
Karen crossed her arms.
