My Wealthy Boss’s Black Belt Son Challenged Me — Unaware I Once Led an Elite Team
Chapter 4
At six in the morning, the private gym was silent.
No friends.
No audience.
No music.
No cameras.
Just Ethan and me.
He wore gloves.
I wore plain training clothes.
He bounced lightly on his feet.
“You ready?”
“Yes.”
He smiled.
“I've been waiting for this.”
“I know.”
The timer started.
Ethan came forward aggressively.
His first punch was fast.
The second was faster.
I blocked.
He kicked.
I moved.
He attacked again.
This time, I countered.
Not with force.
With position.
I stepped inside his reach, controlled his arm, and took his balance.
He hit the mat.
He immediately rolled and recovered.
Good.
He had trained.
He wasn't helpless.
He came again.
I let him work.
For two minutes, he attacked continuously.
By the third minute, his breathing changed.
By the fourth, his movements slowed.
By the fifth, frustration replaced technique.
“You're not fighting!”
he shouted.
“I am.”
“No, you're running!”
“No.”
I stepped closer.
“You're fighting yourself.”
He swung.
I slipped the punch.
He kicked.
I moved.
He charged.
I caught him.
A second later, he was on the mat again.
He stared upward.
“Why can't I hit you?”
“Because you're trying to hit me.”
“That doesn't make sense.”
“It does.”
I offered him my hand.
He ignored it and stood by himself.
“Again.”
“No.”
He looked shocked.
“What?”
“You're tired.”
“I can continue.”
“I know.”
“Then why stop?”
“Because you're learning nothing.”
He stared at me.
I pointed toward the mirror.
“Look at yourself.”
He did.
His chest was rising rapidly.
Sweat covered his face.
His hands were shaking slightly.
“You thought your belt made you dangerous,” I said.
“It doesn't?”
“It makes you trained.”
“Same thing.”
“No.”
I walked toward him.
“A belt tells you how much you've learned. It doesn't tell you how much you understand.”
He remained silent.
“Real strength is knowing when not to use what you know.”
Ethan looked down.
For the first time since I'd met him, he seemed uncertain.
Then his phone rang.
He looked at the screen.
His face changed.
“Dad?”
He answered.
“Hello?”
I watched his expression collapse.
“What?”
He listened.
“No.”
Another pause.
“That's not possible.”
He ended the call.
I waited.
“My father’s company lost the refinery deal.”
I said nothing.
“They're saying someone leaked information.”
“That's unfortunate.”
He looked at me.
“You're security.”
“Yes.”
“You know about this?”
“No.”
“You're lying.”
I stared at him.
“Careful.”
He stepped closer.
“You've been around my father constantly.”
“I protect him.”
“You could have access.”
“I don't.”
Ethan's eyes narrowed.
Then he walked away.
That evening, Richard called me.
“There was an attempted intrusion into one of our offices.”
“How serious?”
“Serious enough.”
“Anyone hurt?”
“No.”
“Who knew the location?”
“Very few people.”
I listened.
“Could be corporate espionage.”
“It could.”
“Do you want me to investigate?”
Richard hesitated.
Then he said:
“Yes.”
That was how my old life came back.
Not with gunfire.
Not with helicopters.
With a spreadsheet.
I began reviewing security logs.
Access cards.
Vehicle movements.
Phone records.
Cameras.
Within three hours, I found something strange.
Someone had accessed a restricted file using credentials belonging to a senior executive.
But the executive hadn't been in the building.
His credentials had been cloned.
I traced the access pattern.
The same device had connected to several locations.
Then I found something unexpected.
One location was connected to Ethan's martial arts academy.
I stared at the screen.
Ethan.
I didn't want to believe it.
But evidence didn't care what I wanted.
I called Richard.
“I found something.”
“What?”
“I need to speak to you privately.”
He arrived twenty minutes later.
I showed him the data.
His face became expressionless.
“My son?”
“I don't know.”
“But the connection is there.”
“Yes.”
Richard sat down.
For several seconds, he said nothing.
Then he whispered:
“Ethan has been acting strangely.”
“How?”
“He's been asking questions about company systems.”
I looked at him.
“Why?”
“I don't know.”
We were interrupted by a crash downstairs.
I stood immediately.
