"To whoever finds this,
If I am gone, don't trust the official story.
I didn't run.
I didn't take money.
I didn't betray the department.
I found something they didn't want anyone to find.
But I couldn't prove it alone.
So I left pieces behind.
One piece for Evelyn.
One for Daniel.
And one where the badge could lead you."
Daniel looked at his brother's badge.
He turned it over.
For the first time, he noticed a tiny number engraved on the back.
Below it was another number.
A locker number.
Harris stared.
"The evidence room."
Daniel nodded.
"The old evidence room."
They rushed back to Bellwood.
But they were already too late.
Someone had entered the police station.
And they knew exactly what they were looking for.
The evidence room door was open.
Harris drew his weapon.
Daniel stayed behind him.
The shelves had been disturbed.
Boxes lay scattered across the floor.
Someone had searched the room.
Harris found locker 117.
It was empty.
Daniel felt his stomach drop.
Then he noticed something.
The bottom of the locker was loose.
He pulled it up.
A small envelope was hidden underneath.
Inside was a key.
Nothing more.
Harris stared at it.
"A key to what?"
Daniel turned it over.
There was a word engraved on the back.
MERCER.
They searched old property records.
The key belonged to a safe-deposit box.
A box opened in 1988 by Thomas Mercer.
The bank still existed.
The manager helped them locate the records.
But there was a problem.
Only Thomas could legally access the box.
Unless he had named a beneficiary.
Daniel asked who.
The manager looked at the paperwork.
Then raised his eyebrows.
"Daniel Mercer."
Daniel stopped breathing.
"My brother named me?"
"Yes."
The box was opened.
Inside was a stack of documents.
And a videotape.
Harris found a player in the bank's archive room.
They watched.
Thomas appeared on the screen.
He looked tired.
