Emma moved. She didn't storm aggressively across the room; she walked with a terrifying, deliberate calmness that immediately drew the eye. As she approached the edge of the white mat, the Sensei noticed her approach. He turned slowly, his towering figure casting a long, dark shadow over her slight, fragile-looking frame.
"You don't belong on this mat," he commanded, his voice echoing menacingly off the high ceiling.
Behind Emma, her mother’s eyes widened in sheer panic. She dropped her broom with a soft clatter, stepping forward with a trembling hand raised in the air.
"Emma. Don't," she pleaded, terrified of the massive man's wrath.
Emma didn't look back. She simply let go of her sneakers. They fell to the wooden floor with a muted, final thud. Barefoot, she stepped across the boundary onto the sacred white surface, closing the distance between herself and the towering master. She tilted her head back to look him perfectly in the eye.
"You humiliated my mother," Emma said, her voice steady and chillingly calm. "Try it with me."
The Sensei looked down at the tiny girl before him. The corner of his mouth twitched upwards into a mocking smirk. He let out a soft chuckle of pure, unadulterated contempt.
