A banner hung above the cage:

IRON HARBOR β€” STRONGER TOGETHER

By five-thirty, the first visitors began arriving.

Parents.

Former members.

Local coaches.

Young athletes.

People who had heard about the charity event.

Madison stood near the warm-up area in her black competition uniform.

Brooke wore a dark grappling outfit.

Tessa had chosen a simple training shirt and shorts.

Nia arrived wearing plain black training clothes.

No championship belt.

No special entrance.

No announcement.

She placed her bag near the wall and began warming up.

Victor approached.

"Glad you could make it."

"Thank you for inviting me."

Victor smiled.

"Are you nervous?"

Nia considered the question.

"A little."

"That's good."

She looked at him.

"Why?"

"Means you care."

Nia smiled.

Across the room, Madison called to her.

"Ready?"

Nia nodded.

"Ready."

The event began with Victor welcoming the crowd.

He spoke about the rehabilitation program.

He thanked the volunteers.

He explained that the purpose of the evening was to support athletes who needed help rebuilding their lives after serious injuries.

Then he introduced the demonstrations.

Madison went first.

She showed basic kickboxing footwork, defensive movement, and controlled combinations.

The audience applauded.

Brooke followed with a grappling demonstration.

She explained how position, balance, and patience could prevent unnecessary force.

Tessa demonstrated transitions between striking and grappling.

Her movements were clean and deliberate.

The audience responded enthusiastically.

Then Daniel stepped forward.

"Our final demonstration is a technical exhibition featuring three of Iron Harbor's advanced athletes and one of our newer members."

He paused.

"Please welcome Madison Cole, Brooke Sanders, Tessa Lane, and Nia Carter."

The crowd applauded.

Nia walked onto the mat.

She looked at the spectators.

Then at the three women.

Madison smiled.

Brooke nodded.

Tessa raised her gloves.

Daniel explained the rules.

"Three rounds. Two minutes each. Light technical intensity. No hard contact. The goal is to demonstrate movement, timing, control, and cooperation."

He looked at all four athletes.

"Everyone understands?"

They nodded.

The first round began.

Madison faced Nia.

They raised their gloves.

Madison started with a jab.

Nia stepped outside.

Madison followed with a second jab and a controlled low kick.

Nia checked the kick and shifted away.

The movement was smooth.

Madison circled.

Nia matched her.

The audience could see the difference between their styles.

Madison was aggressive and athletic.

Nia was economical.

Madison attacked in combinations.

Nia responded with small adjustments.

At one point, Madison stepped forward with a cross.

Nia slipped outside and lightly touched her shoulder.

Daniel called:

"Good."

Madison reset.

She tried the same combination again.

This time, she watched Nia's feet.

She adjusted her angle.

Her glove touched Nia's shoulder.

The crowd applauded.

Madison smiled.

Nia nodded.

"Better."

Madison laughed.

"Don't coach me in front of everyone."

Nia smiled.

"Sorry."

The round ended.

Madison lowered her gloves.

She was breathing hard.

But she was smiling.

For the first time, she had enjoyed a public demonstration without needing to dominate it.

Brooke's round followed.

She and Nia began standing.

Brooke reached for a collar tie.

Nia redirected the grip.

Brooke stepped closer and established an underhook.

Nia adjusted her hips.

Brooke changed direction.

Nia followed.

They moved through several exchanges.

Brooke managed to establish a strong body lock.

The crowd leaned forward.

Nia shifted her weight and stepped around.

Brooke followed.

For a moment, both women were balanced.

Then Brooke released the grip voluntarily.

She stepped back.

Nia smiled.

"Good decision."

Brooke laughed.

"I learned something."

Daniel raised his hand.

"Excellent. Reset."

They continued.

This time, Brooke used a different entry.

She did not chase the grip.

She controlled the space first.

The exchange looked noticeably better.

When the round ended, Brooke raised one hand.

The crowd applauded.

Tessa's round was last.

She began with a light combination.

Nia defended.

Tessa entered the clinch.

Nia adjusted.

Tessa changed levels.

Nia moved her hips.

Tessa recognized the response and changed direction.

The sequence continued.

Tessa managed to touch Nia's shoulder.

Then she disengaged.

The crowd applauded.

Tessa looked at Nia.

"That was my favorite part."

Nia smiled.

"Which part?"

"When I finally stopped doing what I planned and started responding to what you were doing."

Nia nodded.

"That's the whole lesson."

The round ended.

Daniel stepped forward.

"Let's give them a hand."

The room filled with applause.

Victor watched from the side.

He was pleased.

Not because Nia had demonstrated superiority.

Not because the champions had been tested.

But because the four athletes had shown something he wanted Iron Harbor to represent.

Skill without arrogance.

Competition without hostility.

Strength without humiliation.

As the crowd began moving toward the donation table, Madison approached Nia.

"That went well."

Nia nodded.

"It did."

Brooke joined them.

"I think we should do that again sometime."

Tessa smiled.

"Maybe without an audience."

Nia laughed.

"That sounds better."

Then a familiar voice came from behind them.

"Can I join the conversation?"

Nia turned.

Caleb Morris stood near the edge of the mat.

He was walking without a visible limp.

His hair was shorter than she remembered.

He looked healthier.

Older.

More settled.

Nia froze.

"Caleb."

He smiled.

"Hello, Nia."

For a moment, neither moved.

Then Caleb stepped forward.

She embraced him carefully.

He hugged her back.

"You're doing well," she whispered.

"I'm doing better."

She pulled away.

"I'm glad."

Caleb looked toward the three champions.

"Hi. I'm Caleb."

Madison offered her hand.

"Madison."

"Brooke."

"Tessa."

Caleb shook each hand.

Then he looked back at Nia.

"I saw the exhibition."

Nia nodded.

"What did you think?"

He smiled.

"You still move like you have all the time in the world."

Nia laughed softly.

"That's generous."

"No. It's accurate."

Caleb glanced around the gym.

"I heard you're training again."

"I am."

"Good."

He looked toward the charity banner.

"Samuel told me about the fundraiser."

Nia nodded.
