Maya retrieved her phone and pulled up her digital boarding pass, holding it out. "Maya Washington. Seat 2A. First Class. As I told this gentleman, I am exactly where I am supposed to be."

Susan looked at the screen, momentarily flustered, but Richard scoffed. "She probably used miles or got an upgrade glitch. I paid cash for these seats, Susan. Fix it."

Desperate to appease a "high-value" customer, Susan made a fatal error in judgment. "Ma'am, the captain has the final say on seating arrangements. I am asking you to step out of the seat, or I will be forced to call airport security to escort you off the aircraft."

Chapter 5: Calling in Security

The cabin fell dead silent. Passengers in the surrounding seats had stopped what they were doing, many subtly angling their phones to record the interaction. Maya looked at Susan, her eyes dark and uncompromising.

"You are threatening to remove a paying passenger who holds a valid ticket for the seat she is sitting in, simply because another passenger demanded it?" Maya asked, her voice carrying clearly through the cabin.

"I am following protocol for an unruly passenger," Susan countered, clearly in too deep to back down now. She picked up the intercom phone and dialed the cockpit.
