"This is ridiculous!" Richard sputtered, his face now purple with rage and embarrassment. "I'm a Diamond Elite! I'll sue!"

"You can take it up with our legal department," Maya said coldly. "But you will not be flying with us today."

As a humiliated Richard was marched off the plane to the scattered applause of the other passengers, Maya turned her attention back to Susan. The flight attendant was trembling, tears welling in her eyes as she realized her career was hanging by a thread.

"Susan," Maya said, her tone softening just a fraction, though still firm. "We will be having a very long discussion about implicit bias, conflict resolution, and airline policy when we land in Los Angeles. For now, close the cabin door. We are behind schedule."

"Y-yes, Ms. Washington. Right away," Susan stammered, practically sprinting to the front of the cabin.

Maya finally took a deep breath, letting the tension leave her shoulders. She picked up her novel, found her page, and signaled for a glass of champagne. As the heavy jet engines roared to life and the plane pushed back from the gate, Maya looked out the window, knowing that while the skies ahead might be turbulent, she was firmly in control.
