PART2 HOA Karen Built a Luxury Marina on My Private Shoreline — Then I Brought the Deeds to Her Grand Opening
Chapter 3
HOLLOWAY SHORES PRIVATE MARINA
I remained in my truck with both hands on the steering wheel.
The air smelled of wet concrete, diesel, sawdust, lake water, and money.
Then a worker approached.
“Can I help you?”
I stepped out.
“Who authorized this?”
He pointed toward a construction trailer.
“HOA project office.”
“Which HOA?”
“Holloway Shores.”
“This is private property.”
He frowned.
“The HOA owns the shoreline.”
“No,” I said.
“It doesn't.”
I walked toward the trailer.
Inside, a site supervisor named Rick was reviewing plans on a tablet.
He seemed like a decent man.
That somehow made the situation worse.
When I told him who I was, his expression changed.
He opened the project file.
“Client: Holloway Shores Homeowners Association.”
He scrolled.
“Project: Community Marina Phase Two.”
Another screen.
“Authorized representative: Linda Holloway.”
Then another.
“Parcel reference: Holloway Shores Waterfront Amenity Area.”
I stared at the screen.
“Do you have a deed?”
Rick frowned.
“I have permits, engineering drawings, environmental clearances, contractor approvals, payment records—”
“A deed.”
He scrolled again.
Then stopped.
“I don't see one.”
“Then stop work.”
“I can't stop a multimillion-dollar project because someone says the land belongs to them.”
“I am not someone.”
I looked him directly in the eyes.
“I am the owner.”
Rick went silent.
Finally, he said, “You need a lawyer.”
“I need the county records office.”
I left.
By sunset, I had learned something even more disturbing.
The marina wasn't an accident.
It was a project.
A very expensive project.
And Linda Holloway had spent two years building it.
The Records
The county records office occupied an old brick building beside the courthouse.
Inside, everything smelled like paper, toner, and government patience.
The clerk's name was Miriam.
When I gave her the parcel number, she immediately recognized it.
“Mercer Point,” she said.
“Old shoreline parcel.”
“Yes.”
“I need every recorded document tied to it.”
She looked over her glasses.
“That sounds serious.”
“It has a marina on it.”
“Your marina?”
“No.”
She stopped typing.
