PART2 The HOA Declared My Garage Illegal — They Had No Idea I Had the Original Records
Chapter 5
Everything.
No frayed wires.
No exposed wiring.
No unauthorized alterations.
No damage.
No hazard.
Then I went into my father's study.
I opened the safe.
Inside were my bar credentials, state board documents, old case files, statutory references, and a contact sheet I hadn't used since Catherine died.
For fourteen months, I had chosen to live like an ordinary homeowner.
That morning, I decided privacy had given Melissa too much room.
I called Patricia Vance.
Patricia was a forensic investigator who had worked with me on four previous HOA cases.
She answered immediately.
I explained the situation in six sentences.
There was silence.
Then she laughed once.
Not because it was funny.
Because she understood.
"They finally picked the wrong house, didn't they?"
"Yes."
"I'll be there tomorrow morning."
At 7:40 the next morning, Patricia arrived with two licensed electrical engineers and a field technician.
The entire street watched.
Cedarfield always watched.
Patricia shook my hand.
"Show me the box."
She examined the exterior connection for less than two minutes.
"There is nothing wrong with this."
"I know."
Her team spent two hours inspecting the entire property.
Interior panel.
Exterior conduits.
Meter base.
Junction boxes.
Attic runs.
Basement connections.
Grounding.
Load.
By noon, they had produced a preliminary written assessment.
There was no evidence of a hazard, deterioration, unauthorized modification, or legitimate safety basis for disconnecting my service.
But Patricia wasn't finished.
She began pulling Consolidated Power's internal records.
And that's when the case became much bigger.
Someone Started Deleting Emails
Patricia discovered that the utility had disconnected my power without conducting an on-site verification.
That alone was serious.
Then Ethan Brooks found out who I was.
And he panicked.
He started deleting emails.
