ruthless CEO. He took a deep breath, smoothing the lines of

tension from his forehead, unclenching his fists, and

allowing the profound love he held for his wife to wash

over the anger that had driven him all day.

Khloe was awake, sitting up slightly, supported by a

mound of fluffy white pillows. The color had begun to

return to her cheeks, a soft, natural pink that made

Marcus's heart soar. She was reading a book, her hand

resting protectively over her stomach, a gentle,

subconscious gesture that she had maintained since the

incident.

When she heard the door open, she looked up, her

eyes immediately lighting up with a brilliant, warm smile.

"Hi."

"Hi, my love," Marcus said softly, crossing the room

and taking his customary place in the chair beside her bed.

He leaned in and kissed her deeply, savoring the warmth of

her lips, the familiar scent of vanilla and lavender that

always lingered in her hair.

"How are you feeling?" he asked, studying her face for

any hidden signs of pain.

"Much better," Khloe assured him, her hand moving to

cover his. "Dr. Caldwell came by an hour ago. He did

another ultrasound. The bleeding has completely stopped,

and the baby's heartbeat is stronger than ever. He said the

little one is a fighter."

Marcus let out a long, shuddering breath, resting his

forehead against the back of her hand. "Thank God. I've

been terrified."

Khloe gently stroked his hair, her touch soothing the

lingering edges of his anxiety. "I know. I've been watching

the news, Marcus."

Marcus stiffened slightly, pulling back to look at her.

He hadn't wanted her to see the chaos he was unleashing.

He wanted her insulated from the ugly reality of his

revenge. "Khloe, you shouldn't be watching that. You need

to avoid stress."

"I'm not stressed," she said softly, a complex

expression crossing her features. She looked at the

television mounted on the wall, currently muted but

displaying a breaking news banner about the total collapse

of Rossi Enterprises. "I saw what you did, Marcus. You

destroyed them. Lorenzo Rossi is filing for Chapter 11

bankruptcy. Isabella was denied bail after the footage

leaked."

Marcus looked away, his jaw tightening. "They

deserved it. She tried to take everything from us. I made

sure she will never have the power to hurt anyone ever

again."

He waited for her judgment. Khloe was a woman of

immense compassion. She ran charities, she forgave easily,

she believed in the inherent goodness of people. He feared

that his display of absolute ruthlessness would frighten her,

that she would look at him and see the monster the rest of

Wall Street saw.

Instead, Khloe reached out, cupping his face and

gently turning him back to look at her. Her hazel eyes were

fiercely intense, shining with a depth of emotion that took

his breath away.

"You protected us," she whispered, her voice thick

with emotion. "You did what you had to do to make sure

our family was safe. I will never judge you for that,

Marcus. Never. You are a good man. You are a fiercely

protective father. And I love you more in this moment than

I ever thought possible."

The heavy burden of guilt and fear that Marcus had

been carrying for the past twenty-four hours finally

shattered. He pulled her into his arms, burying his face in

the crook of her neck, holding her as tightly as he dared.

For a long time, the only sound in the room was the steady,

reassuring rhythm of the fetal heart monitor, a rhythmic

drumbeat of life, survival, and a future they had fought

desperately to protect.

In that quiet hospital room, the billionaire titan was

finally at peace, anchored entirely by the strength and love

of the woman in his arms.
