Evelyn looked down at the Captain. “Good morning, Captain Price. I assume you are
familiar with the Fourth Amendment?”
“Intimately, Your Honor,” Price replied, her eyes briefly flashing a lethal glare toward
Harlan.
“Then perhaps you could explain why your sergeant believes a phone call from a
busybody overrides my constitutional right to stand on my own property unbothered.”
Captain Price didn't make excuses. “There is no explanation that justifies this, Judge
Carter. This was a failure of protocol, judgment, and basic policing. It will be handled.”
Evelyn nodded slowly. “See that it is. Because if your officers treat a federal judge this
way on her own doorstep, I shudder to think how they treat the young men and women
