Malcolm felt a sickening knot twist in his stomach. This wasn't just white-collar crime anymore. It was blood money.

Suddenly, the sweep of heavy flashlight beams cut through the darkness at the far end of the tunnel.

"They found us," Elena whispered in absolute terror.

"Maintenance tunnels," Malcolm commanded, grabbing her arm. "Move."

They sprinted down the platform. Heavy boots echoed behind them, splashing violently through the puddles. "Stop running!" a gruff voice shouted, echoing off the concrete walls.

Malcolm dragged Elena through a rusted steel door into a narrow service corridor lined with thick cables. He pulled out his phone and hit speed dial.

"Jordan," Malcolm barked, his lungs burning. "Copy the files from the cloud server now. Password is David Martinez."

"Got it," Jordan replied, the frantic clacking of keys audible over the phone.

A massive security guard rounded the corner, blocking their path to the exit grate. He held a heavy Maglite flashlight like a baton. "Should've minded your own business," the guard snarled, lunging forward.

Malcolm didn't hesitate. Relying on decades of military muscle memory, he stepped inside the guard's swing, deflected the heavy flashlight with his forearm, and drove his knee upward. The guard collapsed with a wet gasp.

Malcolm shoved Elena up the rusted emergency ladder toward the street. As they emerged into a dark alleyway, gasping for the freezing autumn air, Jordan’s voice crackled through the phone.

"Files are copied, Malcolm. This is nuclear. We have them."

Chapter 6: The Broadcast

Thursday evening. The Channel 7 news studio was a hive of bright, hot lights and frantic energy. Richard Halberg sat in the anchor chair, looking impeccably groomed and entirely confident. He had arranged this prime-time interview to deliver the killing blow to Malcolm Reed's reputation.

In a secured office across the city, Malcolm, Elena, and Jordan watched the live feed on a massive monitor. Jordan had his hands poised over a laptop keyboard, connected directly to an encrypted server.

"Good evening," veteran anchor Patricia Caldwell said to the camera. "Tonight, we are joined by Richard Halberg to discuss the explosive allegations surrounding his company."

"Thank you, Patricia," Richard smiled warmly. "These accusations are the desperate fabrications of Malcolm Reed, a disgruntled predator seeking revenge because my daughter rebuffed his inappropriate advances. He manipulated our stock, and now he is lying to cover his tracks."

In the green room at the studio, Vanessa watched the monitor in horror. Her father was not just lying; he was setting her up as the scapegoat. If it all falls apart, she realized with sickening clarity, he will blame me.

"Jordan," Malcolm said quietly. "Send the first package."

Jordan hit Enter.

On screen, Patricia Caldwell touched her earpiece. A slight frown creased her forehead. "Mr. Halberg... our producers have just received a data dump of financial records. They appear to show forty-seven million dollars in offshore transfers to Cayman shell corporations registered under your name."

Richard’s flawless smile fractured. "I—without seeing the documents, I can't comment on fabricated materials."
