“What?”
Laura looked at her.
“You called the police on my son?”
Eleanor stammered.
“I didn't know he was your son.”
Laura's voice remained controlled.
“That isn't the issue.”
Laura looked at Officer Grayson.
“Tell me exactly what he did.”
Grayson hesitated.
“He was sitting here.”
“Did he threaten anyone?”
“No.”
“Did he damage anything?”
“No.”
“Did he assault anyone?”
“No.”
“Did he steal anything?”
“No.”
Laura nodded.
Then she turned toward Eleanor.
“What exactly made him suspicious?”
Eleanor opened her mouth.
Nothing came out.
Laura waited.
Finally, Eleanor said:
“He was just... sitting here.”
