He inserted an SD card. Then, he walked out the back door and strolled casually down the gentle slope toward the creek.

By the time he arrived, the destruction had begun. With a sickening crunch of century-old oak and the sharp screech of tearing iron, the excavator smashed through the side railing. The bridge groaned, swaying under the immense force. The operator pulled the bucket back and swung it again, this time tearing through the load-bearing beams.

Eleanor saw Arthur approaching. She crossed her arms, a smug look of victory plastered on her face. She expected a scream, a breakdown, maybe even a physical altercation that would allow her to call the police and have him arrested. She was ready for a fight.

But Arthur didn't look at her. He didn't say a word.
