NO CHILD LEFT BEHIND

Gabe and Lucas sat inside.

Both wore helmets.

Lucas held tightly to the side.

Gabe smiled.

Hundreds of motorcycles gathered behind them.

The engines started one after another.

The sound rolled across the highway.

But this wasn't about motorcycles.

It was about a promise.

During a break, Jerome called Gabe over.

He rolled up his sleeve.

Gabe stared.

There, permanently tattooed on Jerome's forearm, was the original drawing.

The white van.

The broken headlight.

The crescent dent.

The license plate.

Gabe's eyes widened.

“Why did you put that on your arm?”

Jerome crouched.

“Because I don't want to forget.”

“Forget what?”

“That one little kid walked into a room full of strangers…”

Jerome pointed toward the drawing.

“…and refused to give up on his brother.”

Gabe's eyes filled with tears.

“But I was scared.”

Jerome smiled.

“Of course you were.”
