The gunshot echoed through the apartment.

Olivia dropped behind the kitchen counter, her hands covering her head. For one terrible second, she heard nothing but the ringing in her ears. Then came the crash of a body hitting the floor.

A voice shouted from the hallway.

"Federal agents! Nobody move!"

Olivia slowly raised her head.

The physician lay on his side near the entrance, his gun several feet away. Blood spread across the sleeve of his white coat. A second man stood over him, holding a weapon with both hands.

It was Thomas Walker.

"Olivia!"

She pushed herself upright.

"I'm here!"

Walker rushed toward her, checked her quickly for injuries, then turned toward the hallway.

"Rebecca, secure the entrance!"

Rebecca Hayes appeared behind him with two armed agents. She kicked the physician's weapon away and ordered another agent to restrain him.

Olivia stared at the injured man.

"Who is he?"

"Dr. Martin Keller," Walker answered. "He's not a hospital physician. He's a private contractor who has been operating under several false identities."

"He treated my father."

"He may have been monitoring your father. We don't know yet."

Olivia looked at the blood on the floor.
