Chinese Foreign Minister Proposes Five Principles for Addressing the Iran Issue

China’s Foreign Minister Outlines Five Principles for Resolving the Iran Issue

Amid escalating tensions in the Middle East, China has reaffirmed its firm stance on respecting national sovereignty and rejecting any attempts to interfere in Iran’s internal affairs.

Speaking at a press conference on foreign policy during the fourth session of the 14th National People’s Congress on the morning of March 8, Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi emphasized that China has consistently maintained an objective and fair position, calling for a swift end to the conflict.

He stated: “The history of the Middle East has repeatedly shown the world that force is not the solution. Military confrontation only fuels new hatred and plants the seeds of future crises. China once again calls for an immediate halt to military actions, preventing further escalation and avoiding the spread of conflict beyond the region.”

To properly address the Iran issue and related matters in the Middle East, Wang Yi proposed adhering to five fundamental principles.

The first principle is respect for national sovereignty. According to Wang, the sovereignty, security, and territorial integrity of Iran and the Gulf countries must be fully respected.

The second principle is the rejection of excessive use of force. Wang warned that the world must not return to the “law of the jungle,” where powerful nations arbitrarily use force, and stressed that civilians should not become innocent victims of war.

The third principle is non-interference in internal affairs. He noted that the people of the Middle East are the true masters of their region, and regional matters should be decided by the countries there. Planning so-called “color revolutions” or pursuing regime change would not gain public support.

The fourth principle is resolving regional flashpoints through political means. China called on all parties to return to the negotiating table as soon as possible and resolve differences through equal dialogue in pursuit of collective security.

Finally, major powers should demonstrate constructive responsibility. Wang urged global powers to uphold fairness, act responsibly, and contribute positively to peace and development in the Middle East.
